I notice it idles pretty high between 1500 and 2k rpm

It doesn't bother me but just curious is this natural. Car runs and drivers perfect.

Mate it from Gretna to Inverness on just over a half tank. Far better on fuel than the M3.

Also the bonnet release handle is fubared. Would one from a Escort of the same year fit?

Disconnect the idle speed control valve loom connection when warmed up, and if it settles down you need to strip and clean out the valve with carb cleaner. Don't loose the little springs, the valve and little nut lol
