Default is this an ECU?? if so what type



its got Motor(something after this but not sure what) stamped into it and its up next to the battery and it seems to have a blue terminal coming off it.

It'd be a ignition ecu from a early (pre 90-spec) rst turbo.
Its, motorCRAFT.

ah right, so not an ecu that controls everything something that just controls the ignition?

yeh pretty much. looking from your other post, its a mfi-turbo in a mk5/6 escort. There will be another black one, 'fuel ecu'?

ah right, not sure il have a look tomorrow. This cant be standard though this engine/turbo setup - it kept up with my mates 170bhp civic easy enough and he was first out of the roundabouts!

probably chipped, most of them are, how much boost is it running?
anything more than 7psi is tweeked.

no boost gauge yet got one on order though to find out, im 99% sure it isnt standard anyway.

whats the scope on getting even more from these engines power wise or is it easier to just zetec turbo the car.
