Default cossie alternator pulley removal

Got my new alternator....how do i get the pulley off the old one? There's a bolt with an allen key centre...is it just a case of putting the fan thing behind the pulley in a vice or is there a special tool reqd?

thanks in advance

Not a special tool as such, but a lot of sockets are too thick on the body to get in the sometimes very narrow gap between nut and inside of the pulley.
Best bet is clamp the pulley in the vice, then try socket on, they are not normally very tight, it is a std right hand thread, ie counter clockwise to undo, try not to bend the fan, but if you do just have to straighten as otherwise it can rub.
The allen bit in the centre is for holding the shaft while a special spanner(specially cranked) undoes the nut, but they can be way too tight for this after a few years.
