Default My FRST restoration

After 15 years and 154,000 miles i decided my FRST was in need of restoration.

This is how it looked about 3-4 years ago .....

Then it was time to remove the bodykit ... *

Top of windscreen .....

there is the same at the opposite corner *

When finished there wont be much original left due to the dreaded tin worm.
Being replaced: Bonnet, wings, scuttle, tailgate, rear quarters (petrol cap will be later mk3.5), front valance and rear panel. Just the doors and basic shell will be original *

bob ..... its been in for about 3 1/2 weeks now, but wont be out until at least Sept. He's doing the car when he can. Im in no rush anyway, as by then it will be winter and the car will be hibernating

cheers for the replies, the encouragment is needed when spending a fortune on panels at Ford ....... you would think being a smaller car they wouldnt be too bad

Update .....

As i mentioned before, im replacing nearly all panels. I thought i would share in the pain/cost of restoring a wee FRST ......

Rear Quarters (later mk3.5 fuel cap) & new fuel pipe : Ł411.30

Other Panels : Ł519.63

New Seals (windscreen, doors.....) : Ł222.22

Total : Ł1564.15

All panels are Ford apart from tailgate, thats why the high cost!

As with most restorations, once you start removing panels you find more and more rust

New sills going on ....

This is where the fuel filler pipe goes .....

As you see, its not just the front panel that rusts at the fuel cap .....

Edges of my boot being replaced ......

The inner rear arches .....

All inner rear arches are being replaced with Ford panels.

Chop,

Your right, it may look nice on the surface but its when you really start looking into the car that you find problems. Especially the petrol cap area! You might have a new outer surface, but the inner wing rots as well.
The problems with my boot are due to a bad accident repair done some years ago

My car has been an everyday car since 1990, hence the 154k+ miles on the clock.
Scottish winters dont help, especially with the local council dumping tons of salt on our roads
