Sierra Cosworth 2WD restoration - before and after
Hi guys,
Well .... I guess it's time to show off my baby as well.
Some quick history ...
Bought the car around this time last year and drove it for a few months just to get to know the car and get an idea of what needed to be done etc etc.
Took it off the road in october 2010 and started to take it apart, with help from some good friends who owns a small garage and tuning company.
It was aparent, that if the car was ever to be beautiful again, it would need some serious work and I felt, that this car was (cos)WORTH it ...
I replaced two front wings, bonnet with a 4x4, both rear arches, boot lid and repaired some rust in the bottom. Afterwards the car got a full respray in the original Crystal Blue colour. To finish things, I had the entire car rust-protected, eventhough it will NEVER see winter again.
Here is a few pics of the car before paint-job:
Here is a few pics after paint-job but before we finished assembling the car:
When we finally got her back together, it was time to go through the mechanical side of things.
The car was fitted with Mongoose exhaust, 803 greens, T34 with 360 bearing, RS500 cooler, and a chip from the ever cool STU @ Motorsport Developments.
Boost was set at 1,4 bar and the car ran fine like this and I really didn't want to change anything at that point. My attention was set on improving and restoring, so started on the obvious upgrades.
- New 044 fuel pump with complete rewire kit.
- upgraded fan switch with rewire kit for fans.
- New Motorsport ignition leads and a fresh set of spark plugs.
- New Alcon 6paddle clutch kit.
- Skimmed and balanced flywheel.
- Boost gauge and Oil pressure gauge.
- Co2 level checked and adjusted according to CHIP guidelines, but still retaining 1,4 bar of boost until the engine gets entire rebuild.
- New O-ring gaskets on the 803's (suspected one to be a weee bit faulty)
- New fuel filter
- New oil filter
- New Castrol RS 10w-60 oil
- New Grp.A. induction kit
- New silicone hose for Servo-pump.
- New Burton Power Turbo heat shield.
- New dash board (old one was knackered ... rev counter didnt work)
- New ABS sensors in rear.
- New Gearbox mount OEM.
- New Oil breather.
- New Coolant temp sensor.
- New Air temp sensor.
- New leather gaitor for gear-shift.
- New Morette headlights.
- New side-stripe-plastics from a Mondeo Mk2 (NEVER liked the OEM ones ... always thought they looked too big and ugly.)
Things that have been bought and still awaits fitting:
- AEM wideband Air/fuel gauge with lambda etc.
- Complete Samco coolant hose kit
- New anodised blue Vernier pulleys.
- Forge header tank
- Collins engine mounts
- MagiCar 2-way alarm system
- Refurbished Cam cover in blue with breather outtake.
- Grp.A. timing belt
- All pulleys in anodised grey.
- Alternator belts.
- Complete SPEC-R breather system.
- Bailey swirl pot.
- New studs and nuts for exhaust manifold.
- New Denso IK27 spark plugs.
- Ignition coil rewire kit.
- New Camshaft oil seals.
I think that's it for now ... but ALWAYS more to come ... it's a Cossie!
Here are a few pics of the car, as is runs and looks right now:
PICS of the engine bay will be put up soon ... didn't have any new ones.
Things I haven't bought yet and things I am searching for:
- Complete engine bay overhaul ... both technical and visual.
- New alloys ... 17" or 18". Would really love a set of TSW Hockenheims, but can't seem to find any.
- New OE pistons and rings.
Will probably be 4x4 to cure the piston slap 2WD noise at cold-start.
- New OE con rods.
- New OE engine bearings
I think that's it for now .... comments are more than welcome and if anyone knows where to get a set of TSW's, please let me know.
Cheers
