Default ford CVH heat shield problem

Hi there,
Kieran here, this is me first post and i am new to it. savage site!!!!

Just got my first project .

I am in the middle of stripping down a ford cvh engine. I am not too sure of the litre but it came from an escort equipe.

I have taken off the rocker cover and the bolts holding the head to the block. they came off with a bit of strength but were no trouble.

Then i moved onto the exhaust manifold. there is a heat shield covering the actual manifold and i cannot get at the manifold until i remove this. The problem is that the bolts that are holding the heat shield on are as tight as a son of a gun, and over time the bolts have become soft and i feel that if i give it too much they could end up mushrooming.

Does anyone have any ideas on how i could take these off without destorying them?

Much appreaciated
Kieran M
