Default painting a gearbox

has anyone ever painted their GEARBOX, as i think im going to paint mine silver, but before i make a complete hash of it, i thought id ask you guys for any tips or type of paint to use etc etc its been refurbished but its still a little grubby and not as nice n clean as id like it, hence the need to paint it. and id like it as close to original finish as poss

lol yours is one of the very cars im hoping mine can even hold a candle too. superb mate. can u remember how u prepped it ready for primer coat. eg getting the surface clean etc etc

I painted a gearbox yonks ago....

.... all I done was, wipe off the muck and oil, get a wire brush attachment in a drill and go at it.....


... then wipe the whole thing down with a degreaser, and just sprayed on some silver-metallic paint out of a spray can.


It lasted about 12 months before all the crap turned the shiney silver, into how it almost looked before I started....

... but I guess I shouldve cleaned it atleast once in a year

Gave it a good coating of tfr (truck wash) and then jet washed it off ,then a 3m scotch brite on a drill (b and q sell them)lots of degreasing then hi etch primer ,primer then base coat and clear
