To run one on carbs, you still need an engine managament loom to get the spark and it's correct timing. Edis alone will just give static 10degrees advance. It's easier to fit the converted loom and an injection tank and pump and get it running how it was intended rather than trying to use a 1300 spark map and carbs to get around fitting the proper ecu. Although with mappable ignition and a proper setup, twin carbs will provide good power. I do Megasquirt looms too btw which is what mine runs, with a turbo bolted on.

Do you have a non PATS complete engine loom minus the plugs you mentioned? Or is it an internal edis loom?

Can you get away without fitting an injection tank simply by not letting the non-injection tank get too empty?
Or what about a small inline pot with a pump either side?

Given the rarity of XR3is (and any mk4 in fact) at a scrappy this may be an easier option.

Its internal EDIS Pats loom with chip and key with mentioned plugs missing plan was to get it running then swap to a non PATS ecu so would need to change the ECU pins etc

good mate, i would like to add a couple of things though, firstly if you use the std escort mk5 zetec water pump hose then all you have to do is chop 3" out the middle and reconnect as the zetec rad is 3" higher than the cvh item.
secondly i didnt have to alter my top hose to fit, its the type with the sensor in too.
i believe its a rs turbo s2 top hose

RS turbo top hose has a water feed in it for the turbo, thats the zetec hose. Think he just shortened his to stop it kinking.

Why is your on RS2000 mgment?

Think you can get pattern tanks.

Say you dont want the hassle of doing this yourself, is their any companys that offer this conversion as a drive in drive out??

With the 2 litre, i understand its better to fit a silver top version (earlier lump from a Mondeo) to avoid the sticking valves but is there any specific year / car to go for when using the 1.8 zetec version??

Do you have a cvh or zetec box? As i had the 2.0 in my Escort last year and used the CVH flyweel and also just used rs turbo clutch kit. But now i'm using 1.8 flywheel and clutch, but didn't know if the zetec thrust bearing worked fine on the cvh clutch fork?

My 1800i zetec lump in my MK2 Orion is running the 1800 zetec flywheel and clutch, with ERST gearbox and release bearing

Great conversion for the money
