So based on using a BW EFR turbo as that's what I want next what's best and why internally or externally gated.


How is the external gate controlled and dose this require a aftermarket ECU to do it properly.

the way i understood it, external is usually better than internal and dont think you need an aftermarket ecu although they are better than the 30 year old ford ecus

Depends how much boost, power, range of boost etc etc

Generally external is preferable, but not always essential

Control is no different whether internal or external.

I'd go external. Better control over boost. Either leave it spring pressure for now or just put a boost controller on it. Plus they sound cool with a screamer on.

With the choice id go external, it can make a bit more power over a small internal gate,
boost control will definatley be better but space and heat management can be an issue sometimes
You can do external gate on pretty much any ecu for safety I usually run a soft spring and use boost to keep the gate closed so if the solenoid or hoses fail the boost goes down
