This is slightly more than your 12.5k budget, as the asking price is £13.5k, bit of haggling and it could be had within budget....... it gives you an idea....
Saw this car on Auto Trader’s Android App. Thought you might be interested. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...01505193609762

getting loads of merc's, bmw's and audi's now round here, getting cheaper to own and reliability is up significantly.

A4 all day long, could get a low spec and still got loads of toys. Ive got the 2.0 tdi 170 remapped and get easy over 50 mpg on a run. Plenty of pull now and comfy.

If I was doing huge mileage like that I'd look at the cost of leasing a car over buying it. Depreciation is going to be hard on all makes when you are racking up almost 200k in 3 years. Also if was to spend that amount of time on the road I'd want the car to be as spot on as possible and not old and clapped out. I'd look at it as a monthly expenditure like it wS a train ticket rather than how much pate car I has to spend on buying a car outright. Car wise, I'd probably be conservative and get a golf gtd.

Ive owned a Audi until March this year when I got rid and returned to a Ford so yes my opinion is cack.

Maybe cr engines more reliable but they have there issues on early models also.

Opinions are like arse holes.... everybody has one.

PS, my opinion is unbiased as I don't drive either daily, mates have them, I've driven them and tbh I have never found any Audi to be that fantastic to live with bar an A8 although I liked the S3 and S4's too which would be unfit for service here. However I have always been pleasantly surprised when driving a focus/mondeo... And more recently was amazed at how well a Kia (something) drove.

Unless I was getting a car allowance, I'd be wary of buying something for that money for fear of getting humped with depreciation. If I didn't care about that then I'd probably be looking at a Passat CC. It should do everything you need and they're pleasing on the eye.

I have to agree with Rob on the myth regarding Audi and their reliability, I've been hearing some horror stories of late. Aberdeen is swamped with Audis due to their PCP deals and the need for everyone to keep up with each other or the latest trends. More and more are moving to Merc of BMW now though and their experiences with them seem far better.

I have sight of our fleet stats at work and the mondeos have far less bills than the audis for the blinkered Audi fans. I would spend my own money on one!

I went for a 2 year old 40k miles CC. Half it's retail price and cheaper than a golf of similar spec. Full leather, heated & cooled seats, DSG (auto), Adaptive Cruise, xenons... etc. Depreciation seems to be on mileage after 2 years rather than age.

Don't get a 140bhp though, the 170 isn't quite enough..... and I dont even drive fast

I've got 19" wheels too which I'd avoid if you can as it's a little crashy on most of our roads. Minted on the motorway or good A roads though.

Out of curiosity, if there are any in the fleet what are your stats like for Skoda vs VW and other VAG.

There are only a couple of Superbs and they give zilch trouble. Not a very big sample of them tho to tell. I know what you're getting at as the annual jd power type review puts Skoda well above the rest of the vag group for reliability.
I certainly wouldn't believe the bullshit that German is best, for example I wouldn't buy a 1-series bmw or an x3, constantly in the garage with faults.
