Now that it has gone, a pair of cloned plates and the scumbags will never get caught.

The scumbags who will now happily drive round without paying tax, insurance or an mot will be far less likely to be caught.

Keep safe Gents by blurring out your number plates on any pics you put up online of your car and don't let some scummy fucker ride round getting speeding and parking tickets in your name as I reckon there will be a huge increase in car identity theft as a result of this change.

This is going to cause absolute havoc.

My plates were cloned on one of my bikes - points for speeding, running lights, driving up wrong way streets etc etc etc totalled a whopping 46 points. The only saving grace was them using the tax disc (my bike was silver, had two under seat exhausts and was damaged due to an accident - the other was a black single side slung exhaust b still they didn't believe it wasn't me) when they finally can't up with it.

It's always been easy for me to check the status of my tax using the disc in the windows rather than having to go on my phone/laptop etc

Why do you need to check it, you get a reminder well in advance of the old one running out

Coincidence I know but still
I've had the same, the system they use with ANPR doesnt update if you buy tax in the post office 5 minutes before closing on a Sat

My guess is now people will start nicking or cloning numberplates.

Also the Isles of Sciliy have no ANPR system...does this mean they don't need to pay tax at all?

It doesn't/didn't. But it makes it easier without them now, as you only need a pair of fake plates, and don't have to worry about forging a paper disc.

I'm sure the police in Scilly have access to the tax and insurance database - any body with an internet connection and a web browser have access to the tax and insurance database

I remember mid 90,s when my tax disc ran out in June so cut the 6 out and turned it upside down.instant 3 months extra tax.even had a copper look at it as it was parked half on the path outside my house and a neighbour complained."as long as it's taxed I can't do anything"he said as he glanced at my windscreen.
Oh the joyful days before computers.

Note:if any police or dvla tax enforcers are reading this...it is a made up story to make myself more popular as I lack self confidence and am a little bit ADHD.

I think the only good part of the tax disc change is that you can monthly.

Lol, Means I can stop having to find the tax disc on the floor of my daily lol, it constantly used to fall off!! The Orion just has a daft Kwikfit one I think so it can come off too!

On a side note its a shame that even part of the saving isnt passed back on to the actual price of road tax but hey ho!

Not exactly difficult to do provided it only needs to look valid from a distance, and besides, most cloned plates are a temporary criminal fixture, not like folk are leaving it parked outside the cop shop for 12 months for folk to check carefully? I genuinely don't see it making any difference.

Looks odd without a disc though so I've put one of my old ones in. Expires "07 95"
