Default Mk1 escort radiator

Did the mk1 escort have an expansion tank to go with the radiator or was it just the radiator with a cap.?

Silly question but how come later cars have an expansion tank ? was it a safety issue or just a new design

Fronts of cars were lowered to make them more aerodynamic and to make it more friendly when a pedestrian got scouped up onto the bonnet.

It didn't leave a lot of room for a conventional radiator with header tank so the separate expansion tank was born.
