Difference 2wd sapph hubs and 3dr hubs
I was looking at a picture that shows the 2wd sapph and 3dr hubs next to each other.
And apart from the difference in roll center (TCA and TRE mounting points lower on the 3dr) I also noticed the mounting of the TRE is further to the front on the sapph hub. What does this mean for the geometry? I know that it will make the steering more sensitive (and thus heavier) and the steering lock bigger, but does it also influence the Ackermann principle?
Next to that it also makes me wonder if the steering racks from the 2wd sapph and 3dr are different. 2 years ago I fitted the 3dr hubs to my 24v sapph, replacing standard hubs (non-cosworth) and found that the tyres were hitting the inner arches on full lock after that. After swapping the DOHC steering rack for a 2wd Cosworth rack (no idea if it was sapph or 3dr) that was solved because the lock on the cosworth rack is less than on the DOHC rack.
