Default RED RELAY IN FUSEBOX ???

Can anyone tell me what the RED RELAY in the rear of the fusebox is for ?
It is the one nearest the bulkhead and offside(r/h) front wing just marked as a 40A relay.
My fuel pump STOPPED PRIMING, so was pondering why, starts ok pumping as soon as starter is used and running.
It had been left for a few days to see if it would prime but no it would not.
This relay above was ticking randomly and very quietly, so took it out, found some white grot underneath it, nothing on terminals, took apart found nothing amiss, stuck it all back together after cleaning it up with soft brush and it PRIMES!!
It is as far as I can tell from handbook a HEADLIGHT WASH WIPE RELAY, but I think not, anyone else had this.
thanks

the yellow relay is the ignition/ecu i think( been a while since i've looked)my haynes manual lies a lot about which one is which

Could be(?), as I say was working when running but just would not prime, but now it does, oh well the FORD handbook shows a relay for wash wipe, unless I have forgotten what number was on the lid and got it wrong!!
Thanks for the reply.

it might be for more than just one thing though
how big is it?
normal sized or the smaller ones?
and, when you remove it, has it got a number on the side of it and an amp rating?

could provide clues

alternativly, wire up a meter to it (the fuse box not the relay) and turn the ignition on to see if you get power to one of the terminals for a second

I looked and it is defo NOT the fuel pump relay, as mine is under dash.
It's working so going to leave it, might just pull it out to see what stops!
