Default Identifying cosworth 4x4 gearbox and diffs? Quick help pleas

As above, looking at buying a car not an original cosworth but an escort mk4 with 4x4 running gear. How can i check that the gearbox and diffs are cosworth parts and not xr4x4 for example?

Cheers, Mark

beacuse the V6 xr4x4 box won't fit onto the cossie engine

but they are the same bits anyway so there isn't a "cosworth" tax to pay on them if you were going to buy them

the only big differences are the hubs front and rear so make sure it's got cossie stoppers on it

oh ok, well it's currently got a zetec turbo bolted up to the gearbox, so even more confused now

It's got the 4x4 cosworth vented rear discs and nothing on the front yet, comes with 2wd 4pots but they need a bit of modding as won't bolt straight on, not lined up with the discs.

The gearbox has reverse below 5th and is lift and reverse, not sure if the xr4x4's are like this anyway?

all the MT75 boxes are like this, althoguh the T5 is the same shift pattern but with the pull harder to get it into reverse

the box should have a big lump on the back with a normal prop coming out the rear and one also coming out the front but underneath the drivers seat area

if you want the 4wd front you need to get it to mate to the zetec bottom end, as the front diff and intermidiate shaft sit in the sump

also, the 2wd came with 4 pots but the 4wd came with bigger single sliders, possibly due to the offset of the brakes etc and the need to keep the same wheel centre width

so is the mt75 box in the escort cosworth the same as those fitted in the xr4x4's?

it has got the lump on the side where the front prop connects up, and the car has already got a custom sump made up with the front driveshafts in place already. i just want to identify what im buying is escort cosworth parts like he is telling me and not cheaper xr4x4 as i am planning on putting a yb in it.

i will put the 4x4 cos front brakes on it anyway as want to run it with steelees and they wont fit over the 4 pots.

i'm learning here so much appreciated!

yes, the way to tell the difference is to look at the prop doughnut, it's thinner than the sierra ones
and also the cossie rear output shaft is about an inch longer than the non cossie one, but youneed to remove the prop doughnut and spacer plate and balancer thing from the end of the box first, i'll look for some pics to show you what i mean

even if you find you've got a "cossie" box in there, it won't be much more than 350 brake before it starts to struggle
