FRP Front Brake Disc Advice - HELP
Hi I didnt want to put this in the puma section as Im finding the 'Ford Racing Puma' seems to be a difficult car to get any answers for, therefore I wanted to make sure this post gets seen... Could do with some advice...
I have had the front discs skimmed but still have a bad shake when braking - serves me right for running them so low... problem is the only discs im finding are £300 plus!!
I spoke to Ford in Preston he found me part numbers and prices but they do not have them anymore:
Driver side - part no 9087793 £135
Passenger Side - part no 9087803 £162
Why on earth does each side have a different number and price?! The parts guy said he has never seen this before.
Is it possible to put a standard 1.7 set up back on? or will it not be possible?
I just need a cheap fix, im not going to be selling the car, I move to Australia in 6 months and the car is going to be stored for a few years..
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jeni

Puma build or puma speed for brakes . The discs aren't handed either so probably the cheaper one is for a standard 1.7. If you want to put standard discs on the you'll have to change the calipers as well

The discs are handed on the FRP, the veins inside go in different directions and should be fitted to the correct side, hence the differnet part numbers. As said above though they are only available from Pumaspeed and Pumabuild who bought all the spares from Ford a few years ago, still £300 + which is a shame.

could speak to a company like Hi Spec they could do you a bell and rotor kit maybe slightly costly but should be less and then all you have to do is change rotors and if you can get specs they work out around 60 ish quid a side

It would be a shame to loose the alcons, but the discs are way too expensive. If you just use your FRP for daily driving, the cheapest option would be to swap the discs and calipers for a 300mm focus ST170 set, they are a straight bolt on. Or alternatively you can use mondeo mk3 caliper and pads, with an ST170 disc. It's a good set up, not going to be as good as the alcons, but the whole set up will cost you about £150.
Removing the alcons will de value your puma though, so if you intend to sell it, I'd keep them for the new buyer to have the option to put back on.
The hi spec kit is good, but it still works out expensive for your first order, over £300 iirc, but after that you will only need to replace the rotors when they wear. I think the rotors are around £120, & more for grooved ones.
