Default White smoke and internal fans blowing

Hi all. New to the site and have seen some great advice already. Any advice on the issue below is greatly appreciated. I have a 2007 focus tdci which has the following symptoms:

White / grey smoke on acceleration post 2k revs
Smokes in all gears past 2 nd
Internal fans blow louder as I accelerate

Additional info:

No perceived issues with top end speed
Possibly a little sluggish getting through the gears
Approx 49 mpg as routine
83000 miles on clock

Want to address this before its too late or expensive. Thanks all.

i'd say it was head gasket on the water side rather than oil related

have you had the system pressure tested?

Not using excessive oil but will have it pressure tested. Someone has mentioned cleaning the EGR valve but no idea how thats done or what it looks like. Temperature is normal too. Thanks.
