Focus mk2 bi-xenon rating.
Hi there,
I purchased a 2009 Ford Focus Titanium 2.0 tdci yesterday and I am very pleased with it. I went for a drive at night at thought that the Bi-Xenons were very underwhelming as I had especially looked for a car fitted with them. I assumed that the bulbs were getting old but after reading the user manual they are only listed as 35W bulbs.
My question is can I upgrade the bulbs to 55W ones? I have the headlight washers and auto-leveling so cannot see any reason why I couldn't. Would I need to replace the ballasts?
Thanks
James

Thanks for your reply. I would probably go for 6000K bulbs but my question is can I fit 55W 6000K bulbs as apposed to 35W 6000K bulbs?
If I fit the 55W 6000K bulbs will I need to change the ballasts?
Thanks again, James

Yes you will need to change the ballasts as the higher current draw from the bulbs will burn them out. You may find 55w bulbs won't work anyway as the ecu may think the extra load is going to ground and shut the circuit down.
The xenons in my old mk2 st were brilliant. Maybe just try a new set of standard bulbs.
