Variable knocking noise
Hi all,
I now have three 1.8 TDCI(115) MK1 Focus because of a fab example my sister had a gave me - such a good drive!
BUT one of the others is sick. It was hard to start so a local Bosch Centre fitted two new injectors after a leak-off test. Much better running but not perfect.
Now it has a tapping noise that sounds like a single tappet, except it dies away when there is no throttle and gets louder under throttle. After much reading I suspect an injector fault, perhaps one of the other two. Is this knock caused by injector drip?
It's also very rough until gets up to temp and produces dark grey smoke under acceleration. I have cleaned the EGR using Wynns EGR3 spray into the inlet manifold while running (as per instructions) - not sure if this helped. I suspect a temperature sensor but don't know if it has one.
It needs new belts, clutch bearing, wheel bearings and brakes, so it's borderline whether it's all worth fixing. Only if I can get the engine right.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
