Default TDCI ticking on start up

Hi all,

I've had my focus TDCI sport (03) for a month now and last night I noticed some ticking on start up. As it was the first time the car was fully laden I put it down to either the brake bias adjusting or power steering ticking as the car compensated for the excess weight.

However the ticking is still there at any time - it doesn't matter if the car is cold or warm and it goes away at idle after the car has been driven. The ticking is not in sync to the RPM and it sounds almost like static discharging after a car is switched off. It's not overly loud either and you have to have a keen ear to spot it.

I've been out a few moments ago and started her up - it ticked around 4 times in 30 seconds (not evenly spaced) then did not tick for a minute, then ticked twice in succession above the turbo/injectors.

The noise sounds like it's coming from the fuel filter which then travels along the fuel lines and back into the fuel filter etc. I figured it could be an air lock? Or a naff fuel filter (was changed before I bought the car)? The car has a huge service history and is on 80k. Early Timing belt change etc. etc.

No other issues with the car other than a slight rattle on switch off - but I'm yet to investigate this and put it down to worn engine mounts.

The car is within warranty so I can always whip the car back for investigation

Not too sure about the ticking but get the switch off rattle investigated as it sounds like it could be the beggining of the dual mass flywheel failing !
