Focus 1.6 Tuning Modification. Zetec SE
Hi,
Ive currently got a 2002 Focus 1.6 (Zetec SE) engine and was looking at getting a bit more power out of it. Im a student so not looking to do engine conversions etc. Looked at companies like Shawspeed who can squeeze around 170bhp for about £1300. Ive looked at the Exhaust and filter option too but I was told these dont give massive gains? Supercharger/turbo.. but how much?
Just after some advice with ideas and best parts. Was looking at the Miltek Exhaust system from pumaspeed, but unsure which induction kit to go for, K&N Open/Closed system? pipercross normal/viper? BMC? HELP!?
Im pretty handy around engines so any ideas would be great.. however big or small.. and your experiences would also help
Thanks.
Ps (Would love an ST but will have to wait a couple years for that!)

Hiya Mate,
I have a ShawSpeed built engine, im running SS4's and a few other bits.
Id start with a full exhaust system and a manifold. Dont waste your money on Bluefin, espc if your going down the route of cams, a remap suited to your engine would be much better.
The 170bhp kit from ShawSpeed is based on being used in a kit car with a different exhaust etc... You should see about 140-150bhp in yours i believe, i made 137bhp with just a chip on mine.
To get more power from there your looking at a set of Throttle bodies and management, maybe some headwork too, Jon does alot of different cams for the SE from Mild to Wild.
I personally wouldnt waste my money on different spark plugs and leads etc... standard will do just fine.
Edit: Sorry mine made 134bhp, different person same spec made 137bhp on same rollers same day, got them mixed up.

Im kind of in the same situation with mod's so far ive done:
k&n air filter
full magnex system
custom de-cat
bluefin
denso iridium spark plugs
magnecore ignition leads
looking into getting a 4-2-1 manifold but i want to get close to 200bhp as possible so i dont want to buy anything else that is going to be redundant whilst trying to reach this figure,
can anyone point me in the right direction or if its possible?
sorry for hijacking your thread. . just thought it would be relivent

you will not get 200bhp out of the engine with out spending serious money best to go for a st170 engine etc as thats already close and probs be cheaper all in than all the bolt on parts you have added

i aint no expert but just ruffly adding things up in my head like itbs after makert mangent etc you talking easy into the 4k mark i would say to get that kinda power out of the 1.6 engine were as st170 even tho it mite be hit and miss would probs cost you 1k to do and that leaves you 3k to tune that engine better
