Default EFI running issues...again

So after all the poblems on the MFI i went to EFI... and had more problems.
I got the engine in on OFAB and got the interior loom (ignition/fuel and so on)
The engine would not idle unless the TPS was unplugged and would rev about 2k on idle but would rev up ok.
I dropped the car down to Grove garage for them to have a look at (been told they take ages)....the car was there nearly 3 months.. i called up a few times to be told that he would look at it that week and call me (never called) and got told that the map sensor wasnt working and it now idles with TPS plugged in after putting a different map sensor on but not running great but all sensors are getting a signal.
After getting annoyed waiting around i called up again and was told that the engine has piston slap and the rings are gone so to go and get a new engine before they look at the rest.
So 3 months later im basically back at square 1 in need of a new engine.
I dont want to buy an engine and still not get it running after sending it off for months again so want to get it running and then il change the engine.
problem i currently have is:
it will idle from cold but doesnt like to idle when hot (been told i need to set base idle when hot)
If i try to rev it, it just splutters and goes to die.
If you try to drive it you have to be carefull with the revs or it cuts out under too much.
If you rev it the revs stay up for a second before coming down.
unsure what to do from this point

.

Few basic checks to carry out mate,

it will idle from cold but doesnt like to idle when hot (been told i need to set base idle when hot)
Are the leads getting almost untouchable due to heat, if so could be break down due to excessive heat.

If i try to rev it, it just splutters and goes to die.
What fuel pump and tank you using??? I had this on my EFi cabby and was the in tank standard 3i pump, pump changed to uprated one and all sorted

If you try to drive it you have to be carefull with the revs or it cuts out under too much.
Could also be fuel pump related.
If your using an external pump take the fuel rail feed off and put in a fuel can and see how much fuel comes out when it primes,

If you rev it the revs stay up for a second before coming down.
I have this on mine, mate had the same on an XR2i engine Mk2 Fiesta, after a throttle body stripe down clean (including removing the idle screw and cleaning it) it seam to have solved the issue.

These are just things I've found out on my own cars

Thanks for the help mate.

I got a standard s2 external pump. It was new but I think I'm gonna try another one as I had problems with fueling on the mfi too.

Your mistake was changing from 25 year old MFI to.... 25 year old EFI!
My advice would of been to fit something brand new and you would of had no problems (assuming it was installed correctly).... not much help I know, but hours and hours can be spent fault finding old management and wiring and it's just not worth it IMO.
