recomendations for a good wet weather tyre.....

....on my little front wheel drive amg merc A class? now the wet weathers here the 4 different random cheapos (on it when I bought it) aren't coping to well with my driving style....
its 205 40 17 tyres im looking for in a mid to top range....? what do you recommend...?

Thrush 13-11-2015 06:39 PM

Uniroyal Rainsport. Had two sets of Uniroyal's (original Rainsport and MS Plus 66 winter tyres) and both are/were phenomenal in the wet. I mean really really good. Wouldn't hesitate to get Rainsport's again as a main tyre - and might well do when my current Hankook's wear out.

philg12 13-11-2015 06:50 PM

Yeah uniroyal rainsport 2 are awesome! They have a rainsport 3 out now but never tried them. I went from the rainsport2 to continental sport contact 3 and the rainsports are in a different league in the wet. When the continentals are done I'm getting the rainsport 3

fuzzy 13-11-2015 06:52 PM

thanks, ill look into them....what do you think about your hankooks? do you find them ok in the wet? 1 of the old tyres im binning on my car is hankook but theyre old, worn and a little cracked throughout the rubber so seen better days. obviously the random mix of part worns the tight arse previous owners fitted wont be helping! ive never understood why folks scrimp on something like tyres especially on a performance car!

Fraggle... 13-11-2015 06:53 PM

ABSOLUTELY PLUS ONE ON UNIROYALS!!!!!!

Just had 4 RAINSPORT 3's on my st, old tyres I'd be spinning into 5th lol these bad boys
not a murmur!!

Awesome in dry as well, noise level is very good and have a nice rim protection
as well.

Get onto black circles, I got the 4 delivered NEXT DAY for £281 all in!!!!
Customer service from circles was superb too.

Mine are 225/40/18 so you should be a bit under my cost too :top:

Best all-round tyres I've had were Michelin PS3, pretty competent in the wet.
Never tried uniroyal but they always seem to get good reviews as well.

Mine are the same size as yours, I get them from tyreleader in Germany.

Try mytyres.co.uk for prices, I got a great deal on 5 yoko parada spec 2's last week and was cheaper than anyone else

Put rainsport 3's on the front of my t5 a couple of months ago, they are brilliant tyres. Good in the dry excellent in the wet.

mick 13-11-2015 10:18 PM

another for the rainsport 3's got them on my e46 330i :)

STeve 14-11-2015 06:01 AM

without a doubt best out there are rainsports at moment

Matt Baxter 14-11-2015 07:03 AM

Have a look at the Michelin cross climate,

Edit

Not sure they do them in your size though

fuzzy 14-11-2015 02:13 PM

looks like the rainsports are the ones to go for....thanks...

Big-Dan 14-11-2015 04:44 PM

Another +1 for the Uniroyals. Cheapest place I could find them fitted was Mr Tyre if you have one of those local to you.

fuzzy 10-12-2015 09:45 PM

Are rainsport3's a directional tyre that only runs one way so come in opposite pairs?I looked at one and its marked inside and outside but not what direction they rotate?

Psycho Warren 10-12-2015 10:18 PM

rainsport 3 are superb in the wet.

they look directional but are not. its only inside outside that is important.

Fraggle... 10-12-2015 10:45 PM

NON DIRECTIONAL!!!!

Their asymmetric, inside outside markings due to cut pattern for dispersal.

Get em bought :king:

Another rainsports 3 fan, banging tyre for money, had the ms66 as winters on the e39 and they where brilliant too, I also have the rain experts on the misses car and they are also good for the money, not in the same category as the rainsports though.

fuzzy 11-12-2015 06:46 AM

Bought the rainsport 3's locally for £65 a tyre fitted, balanced and old tyres disposed of.

If you look on " tyre reviews " there are lots of opinions and specifications of wet grip tyres plus where to get the best prices. It may help you to choose your tyres as these days there are so many on the market.

STeve 11-12-2015 07:49 AM

Rainsport 3s are one of the best out there

Pete frst 11-12-2015 09:05 AM

Popular theme here..fitted Rainsport 3 two weeks ago...really good..

fuzzy 23-12-2015 02:59 PM

got to add that now ive fitted the rainsport3's the other week im impressed by the grip on wet roads so that was a good recommendation indeed.
theres a twisty tight s bend negative camber road going up a hill near me that's always slippy from falling leaves. I can hit the 40 limit on it now well before ive reached the straight at the top whereas before traction control was cutting in at about 25.....

Darren 23-12-2015 07:17 PM

Ran my Mondeo ST TDCi on Rainsport 2's for last 5 years and just recently had to change the fronts so went for the RS 3's...........best ever tyre I've ever used, great in dry conditions and unbelievably quiet road noise put them in the wet and they are truly amazing imo.

Chas 28-12-2015 08:11 AM

I have had the RS3s on my Clio 172 in 15" guise for a few weeks now. In the wet they are a superb tyre. I now have an issue with the rear end stepping in in the wet ; the rears are Toyo T1-Rs.

However, if you like dry grip the ContiSportContact 5 will do it better IMO, but at a price :). I know my old CSC3s were not too bad in the wet even when worn down to 2mm!

The RS3s going by my sister's car also will not last as long as some other tyres but this is more mileage dependant :).

STeve 30-12-2015 05:45 PM

toyos are a dry tyre, ditched mine as they are worse than cheapo budgets in the wet

Pitbull69 31-12-2015 12:03 AM

Rainsports are great tyres, Just put Eagle F1s on mine, and again handle the rain brilliantly, little more pricey than the rainsports though

thebigmacmoomin 08-01-2016 07:54 PM

Another recommendation for Uniroyal Rainsport 3 (& the 2's aswell). Use them on my Focus ST (225/40/18).

Tim Wharton 08-01-2016 08:51 PM

Tyres at good price

I'm in the trade so do all my own tyre fitting and balancing
But one of my work mates had a set of tyres fitted at work by Tyres On The Drive
They came in a van with all the latest tyre fitting kit and supplied the tyres at a very good rate so unless you can fit your own it seams like a good deal

Cheers Tim.:top:
