XR4x4 with 17x8" rims - what's the widest tyres I can get?
Bought my new rims (Azev A's) which are 17x8" and they came with 235/40/17 tyres. Car is a 1990 Sierra XR4x4.
I know most use a 215/40/17 but is this for cheapness or because that's the widest that can go on? Cant recall the offsets and all being well will try and test them on the car tomorrow. Just curious as want to see if its worth trying to squeeze anything wider on. Car is on Koni dampers and cosworth -25mm springs. Any help greatly appreciated Rob |
I tried my 17 x 8 TSW Imola's on my XR4x4 and it was a no go!
215/40/17 Koni's with unknown springs. Front arches were already rolled too  So I put the 15's back on |
Mind you - saying that the front were 7 inch but they were all 2wd offset (et35)
|
Hmm - could be interesting haha
Will hopefully know more tomorrow after a trial fitting |
My xr4x4 has RL5 group A ET27 17x8 with 215/45/17
I also have 17 x8 imolas et 35 that fit fine Steve |
Cheers for the information - looks like 215's will be going on then

Turns out the wheels aren't even Ford fitment - was sold them as Ford ones however they appear to be Audi 4 stud
They are 4x108 with an offset of ET30 but the centre bore is 57mm and Ford centre bore is 63.3mm Gutted as really wanted these to work, shame its cost me for the wheels and the petrol cost picking them up. Pleased I didnt order my tyres like I nearly did last night! Rob |
