Too much power (well torque) for standard clutch?
I've just put another pinto engine in my kit car (it's a robin hood). The spec of the new pinto engine is: 2.1 conversion, burton 40/41 cam, twin 45's, full race HT racing head, 5 kg flywheel, ect. I put it in my kit car with a standard clutch with pleanty of meat on it. When the engine was in a mk2 escort, he got a 14 second dead at santa pod and was rolling roaded with around 160 at the wheels. Will this be too much power (well torque) for a standard clutch to cope with or is it work getting something like a ap racing padle clutch?

IMO, get an uprated clutch for sure......
The last thing you want is to have to pull out the engine and gearbox cos' your standard clutch starts slipping........
It would possibly be ok, but why risk it.
Ive got a Paddle clutch in mine, I love it, and with the low weight like you too, its easy to get them going...........
Hope that helps.

well the thing is I put in the engine in on sunday. I took it out of a test drive and it starts slipping @ about 4-4.5k which is when the power band of the cam is. Now the clutch is biteing very high up in the pedal swing so i thinking the clutch isn't disengaguing (sp?) properly. I will have a investigate on the weekend. If the clutch is working properly and jsut slipping because of the extra torque of the engine then i will have to invest in a better clutch. Should only take about 3 hours to change.
