disconecting the water feed to turbo (will it damage it)
 

i want to disconect the water feed from my 86 s2 turbo to get the coolent temps down abit.
i know that the s1 has no water feed and ive seen cossies with it disconected.
will it drasticly reduce the life of my turbo (stage 3 hybrid t3)

any help would be greatly appreciated

no it wont hurt it .i got told this by harvey gibbs in his word do you really think that little bit of water going to cool that turbo when its glowing like fook :top:

true, but do you think it will run any cooler without the water feed?

true again, but the amount of water flowing through is feck all and shouldnt affect the whole cooling system by the time its gone back to the header and thruogh the rad.
personally i would always run a water feed on my turbo if thats how GARRETT had designed it to run in the first place. i would expect the life of the turbo charger to be shortend if the water feed was disconnected as inturn it would have to be running at a higher tempeture. but that is me ;)

fair comment, thanks for your opinion. i havnt decided wether ill take it of or not. might ring power enginering to ask them.

I'd agree, its how it was designed.

Dont forget that despite that fact that the turbo is so hot, it is the temperature of the rest of the system that cools it.......

imagine for example the turbo water is heated to 100deg, and the cooling system is 80deg, what effect do you think this will have when the 2 meet???
90deg..........

What you can do though if you have the time, room and money is to make up a seperate circuit, with pump and small rad, this way if done properly, you'll run the turbo water cooler than standard without it affecting the cooling system temp.
