Trical charger

Hi all,

no dout the outings will be getting less in the coming months so I thought I'd have alook for a charger to keep the car fresh if I fancy a run out.

I've got a square post 097 60Ah in my sapphire cos 4x4.

Any help or recommendations on which to look at, any to stay away from, powered or solor.

thanks in advance.

I've had this one for a few years now, can't fault it. I have not used my car for over 10 months in the past but it will always start fine with this. I use an attachment to plug it in the cigarette lighter socket so i don't have to even lift the bonnet.

Thanks for that, looks a good bit of kit....

Google Accumate mate, I’ve had one connected to mine for 20 od years now and it’s still coming strong, I’ve hardwired mine within the front bumper so all I do is unplug it at that point.

Can't fault this one - kept a few of my cars batteries topped up over winter and reconditioned the Mrs car battery when it drained.

Reconditions them too with a deep cycle. Quick release options etc all available.

Now that looks fab, good range of accessories too.....

Ctek are great bits of kit, but will need wiring direct to battery if the fag lighter goes off with the ignition.

Mate of mine has no power in his garage and his car has a very small battery. He was forever killing them as he wouldn't use the car for months on end. He put a solar panel on the roof and connected it to the battery, kept it topped up fine.

I'm on the mains, just re-done my garage.....think I have more sockets out there than the house....

When planning the sockets I measured up so that if the cars drove in or facing out and to either side there's a double socket inline with the engine bay for this sort of thing....

Lidl do a great charger a few times a year. Or have a look at the C-TEK range.

It does the job well, there were higher spec models but i just wanted a basic one that had lights on it to show it was working etc
i have it mounted on the wall in the garage beside my car, have the window slightly down for the wire to run into the car and then plugged into the cig. Lighter.

I bought a Lidl one used it every now and again to trickle charge batteries at work, it died after about a year!

studabear 20-09-2018 06:26 AM

They have a 3 year warranty. I've got one at work that ends up charging something or another up most weeks. I have another that I leave on the Escort in the garage.

Picked this up from a local autofactors while on my travels.

HILTA garage equipment intelligence/smart charger .

£30 so I'll give it whirl for now.

Just been to look at this after about 5hrs and it's so hot I can't touch it.

I'm not convinced this is correct and I'm not confident in leaving it unattended now.

Does this sound about right for a faulty unit??

st220kyle 01-10-2018 09:33 PM

Doesn't sound right, do they have a tech support line or manufacture no. you can call?
the charger i have, although different to yours, barely gets warm at all.

qed296 01-10-2018 09:42 PM

Yeah there is....I'll go to the shop I got it from as well.

RichieST 01-10-2018 09:51 PM

My 4 amp trickle charger gets slightly warm, but no where near hot.

qed296 01-10-2018 09:54 PM

I expected it to get warm but not hot to the point it made me pull my fingers straight off...

the battery is cool, no increase in temp on that.

the leads are all cool aswell

bigdel 02-10-2018 07:07 PM

Ctek battery conditioner. Leave it connected permanently while the car's laid up. Monitors that battery voltage and when it drops below a certain level, kicks in and gives t a top up, then goes back to monitor mode.

Had one for years on my 3dr while it's laid up over winter

Caddyshack 02-10-2018 07:13 PM

I am a bit late to the party but I bought accumate. A local Ferrari specialist has over 40 cars stored for people and he has ALL on accumate so 1) that’s a good recommendation from them and 2) they sell them cheaply

only point I would make is if the battery is flat they take a while to do their test charge so it is best to keep it topped up than as an actual charger.

qed296 02-10-2018 07:34 PM

Thanks folks, been to the car again and checked the lidal charger (£13.00)....totally different to the other...cool to the touch and topping up nicely.

Not to bothered about the cost but it needs to work and be safe and from what you've said caddy the accumate seems a good investment and also suggested before.

Great chargers for the money are the Lidl units.

qed296 03-10-2018 07:42 PM

Went back with the hilta charger today and got a refund.

going to order a accumate in the next few days
