Default Relpacing Ford Fiesta/Ka/Puma HCV with plumbing valve (?)

I’ve replaced several HCV’s across family owned Puma / Fiesta / Ka’s - and I know the Ford OEM is more reliable against the pattern parts - but just wondered if anyone has ever replaced the troublesome HCV with an inline plumbing valve that can be turned on/off for either summer / winter. Thank you for any responses.

Can't see why not but with a pattern part costing about £20 personally I would use a proper part.
