Ground one side of the solonoid, power the other side from the switch. The switch should have an input, and an output when pressed. If you've got a test light or a multimeter it'll be simple to see what's what

i fitted a switch to my fiesta, simply took the power from the radio to the switch via a fused link, then from the switch via another fused link all the way to the boot via the roof lining from along the a pillar

I would wire it up through a relay to save the load of the solenoid going through the switch, as above you need to know what terminals do what on the switch you have, so you know if pressed which pin is an input/ output, use a ohmmeter/buzzer to test the switch then wire it up something like this..

Im guessing the black is the earth because its looped for the light and the switch.Do I connect the live from the soloneid to the switch with a 12v feed as well

it's too late to go and have a look now but if you can wait till the morning (and if the mrs doesn't take the car) i can pop it out and have a look which wires did what

I tried doing it before but the boot kept opening even before I press the button.Ive earthed the soloneid and earthed the switch.I connected the live from the soloneid to what I think was the live the (black & white wire) and put a live to it as well and the boot opened with out me touching the switch.I even thought about adding a relay?

Looking at this picture here everything looks ok but where do I put the live from the boot soloneid lol

85 is ignition lie 12v
86 is earth
30 is permanent 12 v
87a is permanent feed to boot popper switch
87 doesn't get used ?

But where do I put the live wire from the boot soloneid?

not the best pic but the yellow wire and green wire is the live feed to the switch

and when you press the button this powers up the grey wire

so in your picture, the top black wire gets power, and the 4th wire along gets the power when it's pressed

you don't need to do any other buggering about so chop the connected wire first as this is whats causing the problem

Orange/yellow is ignition or accessory live. Black earth. Black/ yellow to solonoid.

The factory setup doesn't use a relay as the solonoid only draws about 10 amps at the most.

anything else you need to make redundant so cut the looped wire from the top left to bottom left as per the pic

you don't need to earth it, i think that's where you've been going wrong

you only need to power the switch (via a fuse) and then send the wire to the motor to power it

Dojj im now beginning to question the wires on the switch.I took the multi plug out of the switch and ive got an extra to spades but not for the wiring.

Can I have an actual picture of underneath your switch for the wiring please.i got it off ebay I did a test on it and when I press the switch it moves. You have three wires running off the back of your switch looking from the picture.
