Are the sump gaskets for the 2.8 and
2.9 cologne engines the same ?

Im sure their not mate. The 2.3 and 2.6 v6 gasket it the same as the 2.8 as they were all the essex v6 whereas the 2.9 was the cologne v6. Totally different engine as far as Im aware

2.3, 2.6, 2.8 and 2.9 are all Cologne engines, the Essex engine was the old 3 litre used in the Capri. I'm not sure if the sump gaskets are the same. If it's 4wd then there isn't a gasket used at all, it creates too much flex for the front diff mounted on the side of the sump.

2.9 and 2.8 are the same, i run a 2.8 sump and pick up on my 2.9 rwd

yup, the gasket face is the same for all the Colognes. Although there is a 1 piece rubber one listed for 1 model that is the better one to use
