St 170 clutch problem
Hi all I hope someone can help me here. Tonight while driving my clutch went solid and wouldn't fully depress only going half down. After a few moment it's started going up and down ok and going into gear ok but there is now no resistance on the pedal at all it feels very light. Any ideas anyone?

had the same thing in my focus 2.0 ghia, one of the dampening springs snapped in the clutch plate then got stuck under the pressure plate fingers. if your lucky its dropped to the bottom of the bell housing, wont cause trouble

I'm not one for leaving things to chance. Will get it too the garage in the morning.

while your there it may be a good time to see about having your clutch changed (due to the problem you got) but it don't come cheap it cost me £700.00 when i had my ST170 done a few years ago (depending on where you go will cost anything between £700.00
£1.200) |
If you want to eliminate the notoriously unreliable Dual Mass Flywheel - I do a single mass flywheel kit that will allow the engine to accelerate more freely and give a much more crisp bite point.

I've sent you a pm will

well my mechanic can't find anything wrong, he said it does feel light but is fully functioning, not slipping so doesnt want to take the box out incase there is nothing wrong. He's recomended that I keep running it and keep an eye on it. Does this sound right?

don't like the sound of of your mechanics advice there mate I would go and get a second
opinion if it was me |
I have done mate, my mates an ex ford tech and he says it feels normal to him as well. I reckon I'm going to just get cash saved and go for the solid flywheel conversion

don't see the point in going for a solid flywheel they just cause problems further down the line |
What problems does a solid flywheel cause further down the line?

Well clutch done, went with the DMF feels like a new car. The old DMF was on its last legs and the slave cylinder was burst. Great service from D&G Autocare in Stirling
