uprated brakes on xr4x4 2.9i - advice needed

does anyone know the easiest way to uprate the brakes on above car. i have given my son a 3dr cossie shell and he will be fitting 2.9 4x4 running gear into it for now due to cost of cosworth gear and insurance. the discs etc aren't the best i've seen on a car so will need replacing. he intends to use 15'' cosworth 3dr wheels so this will probably dictate maximum disc size but what about calipers etc and will i need to change mounting brackets. also with uprated brakes will the abs system still work correctly. lots of questions i know but any advice will be appreciated.
