what fuel filter?
 
as title. its looking like my engine is going to be close to 550whp when finished mapping ive got a sytec bullet filter in line at the moment and its choking the fuel supply at 475whp at 5600rpm wi 22psi if i remove the internal filter the fueling becomes better but ive no filter then to save my pumps etc what filters do you lot recomend for my possible power .

Can you fit a normal type bosch filter like a cosworth or rs turbo version?

Although curious as to what you mean by removing the filter wont save your pumps ?

Where or how many filters do you have ? I wouldnt run the Sytec filter pre-pump unless there was an in-tank pump before the filter.

i mean if i take the element out of my filter housing and there is dirt etc in my fuel it will go straight to my pumps . and wont that do them harm. which fuelab filter do u recomend as they too look quite small the ones ive seen .

Pretty much every efi fuel tank already has some sort of filtration system pre-pump. So again, where or how many filters do you have and what is the general layout or makeup of the system ?
Even any 044 Ive seen in the past 5-6 years has an internal gauze to protect against debris.

That's not to say a better filter cannot be used though.

And the Aeromotive ones at least will support over 1000bhp even in draw through usage. The Sytec will not. There is no comparison. SX are similar, Fuelab too. Although I think the latter pair come with specified fittings at each end.
The Aeromotive is female thread -12 or -10 and you add fittings to take it down to whatever you want so is slightly more flexible in terms of installation.

Generally you do not use a paper element pre-pump, stainless mesh is best. Although if it has sufficient flow it probably wont matter too much.

Normal practise is a more coarse filter pre-pump, say 100 mic, and a 10-40 mic post pump to protect the injectors.

Its an alloy tank feeding two filters each feeding an 044. I might try a matal gauze in each and if that don't work I'll have to look at a much better lay out. Thanks

You have enough pump there to support over 1000hp. Even with a sytec before each pump you should still be ok at present.
What size element had you fitted ? Must be 10 mic ?
Too small for any pre pump.

Not sure but they look like shitty paper things u get in a cheap inline plastic filter for a quid. If I put a metal one in should I be ok then would u say. Without filter in the fuel supply is fine. 16mm from tank to pumps then one 10mm pipe from both pumps to one 10mm Internal all the way to fuel rail with an 8mm return.

Well an 044 will already have a screen so in that respect it's debatable whether a pre-filter is essential. It can do no harm though, and probably makes sense with a custom fuel cell

But certainly fitting a stainless mesh element to your existing filters would offer a huge improvement.

In an ideal world though you would then fit a proper filter after the pumps to protect the injectors.

From lots of searching, it seems their paper element is 8 micron and stainless 55 micron.
They rate the filter at a flow of 300lph max. That will be post pump and probably with the 55 micron filter where it has the pump pushing fuel through it.
The 8 Microns wouldnt be so much of an issue if the filter area was much larger. But they are just small filters and certainly not designed for efi pre pump usage.

IMO those filters should not be used pre-pump in a gravity fed situation.

If you want a cheapish option, this would be better and more suitable

Although it looks like a copy of an OEM item, I think some Porsche's etc used to use them before the Bosch pump ( the 044 was originally a Porsche fitment )
