Escort rs turbo battery...
 

Does anyone know the correct amp for an rs turbo battery?
I know it's an 097 battery but what amp is that?
Also what amp are the standard alternators? Could I get away fitting a slightly lower amp battery than an 097?
I have no heated screens, no stereo and some other electrical components that ain't in use

A 097 battery is listed for the RS Turbo and is a 59amp 510 cranking capacity where as the normal escort battery is a 085 at 45 amp 380 cranking capacity.
Rs alternator is 70 amp and standard escort is 55 amp.

You could use the satndard stuff but if you already have rs stuff you dont need to change.

Cheers for that info, I have a standard rst alternator on the car but the battery which was on it I binned years ago as it was shot and a friend of mine has offered me a new battery for free which is 380 amp/40amp, so would I be able to run this battery as it has similar ratings of a standard escort battery?

You might but you could try it to see if it has enough power to crank the car over.

I would think it should do tbh, if a standard Escort 1600 has a lesser 'CCA' (As it's essentially the same engine, in fact the RST would be lower compression which would help)

Everything is powered by the alternator when running, so power won't be an issue.

Ahh ok cool, I see what your saying, so as long as it has enough amps and is powerful enough to start it then I should be good?
I'll get the battery off him next week and try it, I'll let you know the results...

S1s were supplied with 085 batteries when new. The 097 was a popular upgrade when people replaced their batteries. Either will be fine for a car having regular use but if you are a less regular user then plump for the 097.

The only difficulty these days is locating square post/bolt thru batteries (try your local factors as Halfords are no use). The popular mod now is to replace the battery cables to ones that fit the current round post batteries - You can get adapters but these often interfere with the fit of battery covers etc.
