Pinto engine 2000E gearbox into MK1 Escort - bellhousing and clutch?
I have an 1100 1970 Mk1 Escort and want to fit a 2 litre Pinto engine and 2000E gearbox. I need to know what bellhousing and clutch is needed, and if the standard prop shaft will mate up to the 2000E gearbox.
Thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul. I did this conversion myself back in the day. U will need either an rs2000 or mexico prop ( mk 1 or 2 will do as these used the 2000e box) I believe the automatic prop is also the same as the rs prop but dont quote me on that. U can use the bellhousing thats on or an rs alloy one and use any 2.0 pinto clutch. If the engine is from a sierra tho the sump will be no good. Use an rs alloy sump with no mods to the crossmember or if its from a cortina or capri you can get away with the pressed sump thats on and you may have to relieve the crossmember a touch. If you leave the 1100 diff in you will have ballistic acceleration but at the expense of revving its nuts off at motorway speeds. Does make a fantastic conversion tho. Gud luck. Regards. Mark

Thanks, Mark. Really helpful. The pinto is ready to drop in with an RS sump on it and I've got a 2 litre clutch. I like the sound of using the 1100 diff, because as you say it will pull quick. Just need to get hold of prop and bellhousing. Thanks again, Paul.
