2009 Kuga Diesel Particulate Filter ( all experts)
 

Hi,
When I popped into my local Ford Dealer today he told me that all 136 bhp Kuga did not have this filter and they only introduced them as standard on the slightly later 140 bhp model, is this true as he was 100% about this? cheers.

I have it on mine 136 bhp, all Kugas have it in Norway from 2008 models

Can you just have it removed?

You can have it removed but then need the ecu remapped to remove the particulate software.

These engine are psa (Peugeot, citroen) units and on a whole are very reliable, you can take them to most decent garages and just have a forced regen carried out if you are having issues, basically this just clears the particle filter.

We as a garage carry out a good 5-10 of these a week, mainly on cars that are used just around town.

You wont go wrong here mate , i recall seeing that they could send you files that clean the filters yourself ?

A friend of the family bought a brand new diesel Kuga and, after countless problems with the dpf, he sold in with 2 months! He had mainly bought it to tow a caravan but was mostly used for local driving. Ford's answer to the problem....... You should have bought the petrol version lol!

There is some servcie bulletin on dpf filters on Kuga, we have done alot of these. Never seen a problem afterwards.

They do not do the Ford Kuga

We only list the 140 and 163bhp models sadly mate.

That interesting because i was told at Ford the 136 bhp did not have dpf but everyone elsr say they do and you only list 140 and 163

I bought a used Ford Kuga 136BHP (2008) earlier this year. It has got about 130k km (apron. 80k miles) on at the moment. Although I've heard something of this DPF issue earlier, haven't had any issue since I bought it (did apron. 12k km with a combination of short round the town drives and longer trips of apron. 150-200km each).

I live in Slovakia and am on holiday now (in Croatia). Today the orange engine light came on and has remained so ever since. Went to the nearest garage (not a licensed Ford service). After quick analysis they've stated it was the DPF and I needed to drive to the nearest authorized Ford service to get it reset etc.

Now the question... The nearest authorized Ford garage is something like 150km from here (and quite the opposite direction of my drive back home). In your opinion can I afford driving back home (apron. 600kms mostly on motorways) and get it serviced back home? What are the potential risks?
I'm planning to head back in the next couple of days.

Romans, Do you know the exact fault code or it's number?

I don't unfortunately. I presume I should have asked the guy in the garage who analyzed it, should I not?

It should be fine, the only problem is if there is any other stored code in the ecu the car won't do a regen so it then can get blocked further, a long steady drive on the motorway is the best place for it to be honest, you won't cause an extra damage.

The hire car company next to us had dpf problems with their Kuga. after numerous regens it continued to fault. We had to physically remove the ecu from the vehicle, get the dpf mapped out, removed the material from the dpf itself, and the vehicle ran faultlesley for 6 months, until it was written off by a customer!:cry:
It was a 136 on an 09 plate.
