Diesel Mondeo cut out now wont start
 

Hi, I have just (30 mins ago) broken down about 200 yards away from my house. The engine stalled then cut out on my 1997 mondeo (diesel). There are no warning lights on apart from the usual ones, - the glow plug light works normally, but when i try to start it it turns over but wont fire - or doesnt even try. It sound different when trying to start - almost like something is missing (weak and not trying to actually start but life in battery).
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
Could it be a couple of glow plugs gone that is causing this?

btw - i dont think the engine is 'turning over'

sure the belt aint snapped?
