Tech Guru's help please!!

Hi Guys My project has gotton to the stage of firing the car up today so checked all fluids etc, then fired up let it heat up a bit then tried the throttle, but it stuttered and would not rev smoothly at all!! Has anyone had experience of a badly set up throttle position switch? would it do this? or what would happen if I had a 2wd switch fitted instead of the correct 4x4 one? any help would be great!!

Thanks

if it should have a pfo9 on and you have fitted a pf01 then this will probly be the problem :top:

Daylight ran out before I could strip it all down to check the numbers, just wondered if anyone had this problem before? Thanks alan!

Sorry, no idea what your project was, but as Alan says, if your running the wrong sensor there no point going any further........

sounds like throttle position sensor. if its the wrong one and you cant get the right one all you have to do is swap the top and bottom wires around. pretty sure it's them two. good luck mate :top:

you can't just swap the wires round - you need the correct TPS

Have found the problem it is with the ISCV must be sticky or fooked, as when the valve was unplugged the car throttled well, just have to adjust for idle!

Thanks anyway guys!

Slow down..... ;)
The wrong TPS will drive the idle valve correctly. The ISCV maps are TPS based ;)

an incorrectly adjusted throttle position sensor will also give the same symptoms.u need to check the tps signal voltage with the throttle closed, and if your using the wrong tps this can compound the problem,
as a ball park the sensor should be in the middle of the slots, there are voltages which depend on the sensor used,it should be 0.2v to 0.6v or 4.9v to 5v at throttle closed.someone on here may give a more precise procedure ;)

Ok Guys heres what I was basing my findings on, I checked and I have fitted the correct TPS for the ecu and I had not altered the wiring of the loom suited for an L8. I have also fitted an SECS monitor which when the throttle is closed reads 0% and on pressing the throttle to the floor reads 100% from this I can assume I have the correct signals being fed back to my ECU. The Car has sat and not run for nearly a year when I have unplugged the Idle control valve ( which correct me if I am wrong is closed once the car is warm enough ) the car reved a lot better and smoother, I therefore took it that the sensor is sticking or fooked.

What is it you mean Stu? The car did idle fine but would not rev smoothly, but with the engine warm and the ISCV unplugged it was really smooth and reved nicely. Any ideas?

Thanks guys

Matter closed have spoken to stu and he has explained it to me basically the car needs a good set up.

Thanks Stu will be in touch once I am mobile with it!

Nick
