2 litre zetec chipping?
Hi All,
I have now fitted a tasty head and some ph2 Newman cams to my 2 litre estate, in addition to it's 4 branch and de-cat already fitted. My question is how to upgrade the std 2 litre Mondy management to suit? Superchip? A custom mapped Unichip? Others? I didn't really want to go down the aftermarket induction route as it's my daily driver and I want it nice and quiet and driveable. I just can't help thinking I am missing out on a little throttle response and a little more go too! What do you think dudes? Thanks Weeksy |
uni chip yes, dont use Superchips they will only give you around 3BHP more and for £239 not worth it.

Thanks for your info dude, much appreciated.
What will a lightly modified engine like mine see from a uniChip then fella? |
my 2.0 zetec made 155bhp with a mapped unichip with roughly the same mods (mine had a standard head though), but that is the limit of the injectors. the tuner said if i had got bigger injectors at the time it would have been around 165-170bhp.
i ended up going for a supercharger conversion after that which came with bigger injectors so i dont know what it would have made. i can confirm the superchips are shite on the zetec engine. you must get it mapped ASAP if you are running performance cams or it will be running very very lean, mine was (but i only ran it like that for a few weeks below 3k rpm's while i saved up!). mine was 20bhp down on power because it was so massively lean with no fuel pressure increase on the standard ecu! so it had totally cancelled itself out power-wise and was drinking fuel galore. other options are megaquirt but they are a bitch to wire in if you arent an expert, or you can get the standard ecu remapped at alot of places now, or get Omex (but its £1200 ish and would be overkill for your setup) fit a bigger throttle body, that helped on mine, and induction kits do work good on them if you fit cold air feeds and fit a decent size cone. they arent that noisey TBH. avoid the K&N 57i, it is totally over priced. other bolt-ons you can do is underdrive pulleys, bigger bore MAF, better inlet manifold, adjustable cam gears, and a lightened flywheel. |
You will need bigger injectors next + all of the above I would guess around 175BHP.

Injectors from what though? They are strange looking things on this!!
I am running a 2 litre throttle body, do you mean bigger than that?! I've got the vernier pullies on there!! |
Bigger injectors from i.e a Nissan 200sx, go for a 62mmTB say from a Focus ST170.
Do you have a Silvertop or a Blacktop? |
It's a silver top my good man.
The ST170 throttle body is much bigger? 200SX injectors are an interesting one! Thanks for the info dude Weeksy |
the st170 TB wont fit. i was using one which was bored out at a machine shop with a bigger butterfly fitted.
i have skyine or subaru injectors in a silvertop fuel rail on a zetec turbo (previous owner wasnt sure, but they are purple) but you need the zetec cam seals (pennies from ford) and the injector multiplugs from whatever car they came from, spliced to your fuel rail loom. dont get huge size injectors, you just need the next size up. you need mapping ASAP, it will be hugely down on power for what it should be, drinking fuel, and you will be damaging that fancy head (i saw the state of the valves on a zetec head which had been leaning out - not pretty!) |
