turbo's and carbs
 

what is the difference between a N/A carb and turbo carb can i put a turbo on a N/A carb at low psi, 7psi ish. Can a N/A carb be modded to take a turbo or am i better off using a carb off a renault 5 turbo or similar.

What carb are you talking about? Webbers? SUs?

Why would you want to use any carb anyway? with the price of fuel the way it is these days, the last thing I woudl want is an inaccurately fuelling turbo engine!

If using suck through you can use any carb, if using blow through anything other than very gentle pressure can cause issues with sealing around the butterfly shaft, if extreme enough it can also flatten plastic floats due to the pressure.
Suck through where the carb is before the turbo has advantages.

suck through works as a reasonable extra bit of intercooler for the charge air, but TBH it has plenty of other problems that more than cancel that out, including the fuel dropping out into the turbo compressor housing when cold etc.

Id avoid suck through use TBH

Most carbs will handle a reasonable amount of blow through, SU's are available to do it, webbers and dellortos too (lotus use the dellorto for blow through)

I still wouldnt though, ever, FI is the way forward without a doubt at 6 quid a gallon for fuel!

it's for a old shitter i've got don't want to spend mega bucks on it thats what the cossies for. it's an 1.8 cvh sierra just needs that little more poke and more of a learning curve than anything i've got a few bits kicking around to do it so won't cost me fuck all the carb is the standard 1.8cvh one but i was thinnking about making an adaptor plate and using a r5 turbo carb?

R5 carb would work, how are you going to sort the ignition?

Id definately be going management, only talking a few hundred quid and will save you a fortune in rolling road time to get it fuelling even vaguely right on the R5 carb.

fuck the rolling road thats why i pay road tax! i'll use the r5 ignition set up and modual that bolts to the side of the coil.
