Default 2.0 zetec crankshaft pulley removal?

Hi guys.

I'm struggling to get the crank pulley off of a Mondeo I've just bought-a Mk2 2.0Si. I'm trying to get it off to change the belt. I'm actually doing the head gasket on the car but thought I should do the belt at the same time.

I've consulted the Haynes Bumper Joke Book and tried following the procedure in there-I have the cams locked with the special tool and when I try to undo the crank pulley (with someone holding his foot on the brake with the car in gear) the camshafts stay where they are but the the pulleys turn with the belt-I had loosened the pulleys but tightened them up before trying the crankshaft pulley.

From looking at it I can't see how to lock the crank pulley-is there any way to do this or can anyone tell me how to get the pulley off? I don't have a compressor

Cheers

Brian

Sure there is a hole in the block (with blanking bolt) to put a locking pin in however shouldnt use this to lock the crank as can bend the pin.

Two options, could try putting a spanner/bar on the nut and hitting it with a spanner to try to shock it, this works on the cvh engines
or
remove the starter motor and lock the flywheel with a suitable tool, eg screwdriver.

Hope this helps.

that is a very good point that i forgot to mention! you can use a gearbox bolt to slide through the hole and lock the flywheel up! if that doesn't do the trick i don't know what else could
