Silvertop Zetec Dhoc -Zetec16v

Wot im after is if can anyone tell me is there a difference between the engines ?

is there actually any difference between the engine that has DOHC marked on the cam cover compared to the engine with Zetec16V marked on the cover? Or was it just the cam covers that were changed ?

Is there any Mechanical differences either??

Cheers Folks :)

I'm sure I read the only difference certainly on the very early cars were the covers.
The engine was destined to be called ZETA, but there was a right to this name held by someone else.

thanks Tabetha, Yeah your right, was held by the italians i beleave and were going to sue Ford, for copyright,

I was also under the impresion that they also changed the hydraulic lifters due to them sticking from people haveing a lazy driving behaviour.below 4k rpm, a new oil was used and then renamed to zetec. what they have actually changed i dont know as ive compared parts from the zetecE engine compared to the dohc engine and there is nothing that i can see, even lifters fit in perfectly..

Thanks again :)

They did do a change to the inlet valves or to the inlet guides, thinking about it, as did have a few sticky valve syndrome, at least I seem to vaguely recall that, as knew someone who had one from new a K reg that had to go back for this under warranty, but the "mod" material I'm sure was then standardised, who knows with ford though, was a few years ago now!

Tabetha you dont know by any chance wot the gearbox the dohc engines used ? cuda been same as the Mk5 escort as well as M reg mondeo's.. Found my IB5 box is no good. :( starter is on the rear, i need a box with the starter on the front, but that will also fit into the Mk6 escort bay.

Gearbox from an Fiesta RS1800, XR2i 16v or Si (all have Zetec engines) will work and has the starter on the front.
