Default Induction Kit/Suspension for Foucs, Advice Appreciated

Hi

Did try this on the focus forum but didnt get any luck so was hoping it might get more attention here.

Ive got a focus 1.6 zetec, and im after both an induction kit and suspension kit/lowering springs and im stuck on what to go for to be honest.

On the induction kit front i havnt got a clue, never bought one before, ive heard that some open air kits like the K&N 57i can actually end up damaging performance rather than helping, and its better to go for an enclosed unit, so can anyone recommend any decent kits from your own experiences.

Eibach suspension seems to have a pretty good range for the focus, think its what they use on the rs, correct me if im wrong. Have had a look at the pro spring and damper kits and the pro spring kits to drop it around 30/35mm. Anyone have and experience of the company, products etc.

Thanks in advance for your help, any info greatly appreciated.

Oh, and if you could recommend any decent aftermarket/uprated headlight bulbs would be good

Cheers

suspension wise your right on with Eibach. they are very good and highly recomended for the focus. i have heard of peopleusing the Eibach springs with some adjustable (not in ride hieght but stifness) shocks but cant remember what they are called.

you could just do the springs or you could get the complete kit with the dampers as well. its up to you realy.

as for induction i would never get an open air kit as this sucks in all the warm air from your engine bay and can hinder performance as well as hurting your engine!!! you could go for a Pipercross Viper induction kit but its expensive. a lot of people have used a K&N replacement element (panel filter) along with a st170 intake pipe (goes to the airbox) as its bigger than standard ones. you may need the bottom half of the air box from an st as well, i've not done this (my car is standard) so dont know what problems people have encountered, and also you can fit an air deflector out of the st (this is the plastic piece which your intake sits on). all this is very easy and cheap and all i have heard is good reports from it. slight power gains and improved economy.

Cheers mate appreciate the quick reply.

Probably go with the Eibach pro spring kit now on the standard shocks because the full damper/spring kit is gonna cost a bomb and ive got another project in the pipeline.

Thats what i thought r.e the open air filter so thanks for confirming that. Think ill have a look at the viper when i get paid next and use up all the money ill save not buying the dampers

Thanks a lot for the help

sounds like you will have a good setup there then mate. you can always upgrade your shocks at a later date anyway and you shouldnt have any problems on standard shocks and handling will be improved so its all down to what the car is used for.

with regards to the viper kit people have done tests in the past, cant remember where the results are, but in some cases the viper kit was NOT as good as the ford mods. mind you each sngine is different and will respond differently to mods.

go for what you like but just think that the cash you save on not including the shacks an not going for the viper is a lot of pints down the pub

Yeah should be good, dont want to go any less than 30/35mm though becuase i have a feeling itll just throw the car completely off balance and oversteer like a biatch.

Thanks for the info r.e. the viper. Ill definately have a look at the airbox mods, bit hard to get parts though becuase im on the isle of man, will have to source some uk ones or buy direct from ford but definately worth lookin at.

Cheers
