valve stem oil seals

in the process of doing valve stem oil seals when taking the old ones out how do i put new ones in do i have to really push down on them, havnt quite got a socket big enough to tap them in, any more tips too :top:

urm, ok deffo stem seals u mean???

Thats the little gromit type bit that goes around the valve stem at the top of the head, you just compress the valve and remove collets, remove spring and top cap, slide old off and slide new on, depending on engine (ive only done cvh) its a rubber grommit with little spring round it, just pops in then rebuild valve assembly and go on to next!

You should be able to push them on with your fingers they're not that tight. What valve springs are you running? The modified stem seals are far better!!

i allways use the ford revised version, they are mega never ever let me down, the top hat type that sit under the spring :top: :top: :top: and they just pop on there, no force needed!

I agree but they are useless if you run double valve springs.......

biglee 11-04-2006 10:26 PM

why is that? i have double springs on mine and its cool as?

SafeChav 11-04-2006 10:29 PM

The springs sit very badly with the top hat style, you're not meant to use them, double springs sit badly on the head with normal stem seals alone. You can buy some adapter washers to sort it all out but you can't run the modified seals alone. Next time (IF) you have a valve spring off look at how the inside spring sits on the top hat....... :(

mine sit perfectly around the little angled bit, i know what your getting at both springs sit right on the deck, not the smaller spring sitting half way up the angled bit like ive seen before.

Even with the little raised bit on the top hat ones they don't sit too clever :(

CVH top ends are just shit full stop

biglee 11-04-2006 10:47 PM

agreed but they are cheap lol :top:
