Twins, not got any futher with the dash than in the pics on the last page, been busy today sorting out some parts, collected the ones in the above pics but also sorted out a bulkhead from a mk3 cabriolet and the brake linkage n brackets too
jaypen, rods are standard zetec items with the little end opened out to accept the larger diameter vauxhall gudgeon pin, pistons are calibra turbo items with vauxhall piston rings
Rab, after buying all those panels can you believe i forgot the most common mk3 rot place replacement panel... the battery tray it'll be in my possession on monday
Boris357, it was a Ł9.99 electric chisel from Lidl
this removed the thick of the stuff down to the yellow coloured bits left in in this pic
once it was at this stage i used an angle grinder with one of these twisted wire brush attachments on
to get it back to bare metal, works rather successfully

So are you going to chop your original bulk head out to put the cabby one in for the better brake linkage, or will the simplier brake linkage fit straight in? Would like to know to sort mine out eventually!

AD-RS1600i, the bulkheads the same shape from the mk3 cabriolet but its got a few less holes in as the linkage mounts to the bulkhead slightly differently. i'll keep you updated with pics and info tho

I can shed some light on the reason for the wanky brake linkage. When the guys in england were looking at the RHD conversion for the 16i they realised that the xr3/3i setup wouldnt clear the back /bottom of the plenium.....hence that rubbish linkage. If you can get away with it...and it looks like you have then the xr3 one is

Wonder why that is though, because the XR3i inlet is not a million miles away from the RS1600i one layout wise? Unless it is to do with the fact maybe the 3i wasn't about until after 1983? I know the carb'ed XR3 was?

AD-RS1600i, its a mystery to me, i would have thought they'd be a straight swap to be honest, guess i'll find out in due course
Lee Reynolds, from what ive seen so far theyre very good, but ive not fitted any yet, just had a bit of a go offering them up to the car. watch this space
