was in the loft earlier today and found some bits i forgot i had
pair of door rubbers
braided hoses
and a car cover
as its been a while since i done an update thought i best do something today before i go to work, so went in the garage and stripped the cylinder head
valve spring compressor
lining the valve spring compressor up with the valve
spring compressor lined up with the valve spring
with the valve spring compressed you can see the valve stem and also the collets which hold the valve and the spring collar together
best way ive found to remove the collets is to use a flat blade magnetic screwdriver
one of the collet's on the tip of the magic screwdriver
thats the first 2 collets removed
once the collets have been taken out you can remove the valve spring compressor
push the valve down through the valve guide so it can be pulled out completely
combustion chamber with one inlet valve missing
looking down on the spring and collar with no valve in position
collar removed allowing access to the valve spring
one inlet valve, spring, collar and collet's
not a very clear pic this one but somewhere in the middle is a valve stem seal
inlet valves removed
inlet and exhaust valves removed
next stage is to send it away for some headwork and larger valves
the problem now is deciding what spec and who to commision to do the work

just have to remember there is no rush, and to go at your own pace. i assume its not your everyday car so you're lucky enough to be able to work on it whenever you feel like it.
if you're stuck on anything give me a shout, if i can help i will

why are the inlet valves and exhaust valves different colours? does this mean its running lean or too rich or what? just trying to learn.

ma_turbouk veedubs are well built and ultra strong
Cliff S1 door seals were free as Andy gave me them with the car
rich p xr2t bodywork is coming along steadily, not progressed it a lot recently, but its nearly ready for the cage to go in
Moondust_crust as far as im aware the valves are different colours due to the inlet valves being cooled by the air being drawn into the engine whereas the exhaust valves constantly have hot air running over them.
essexrsturbo who've you chosen mate?

here's a little update for ya before i go to bed
as the turbo had a restrictor fitted when i bought it i removed it and made an adaptor to allow me to connect the air filter to turbo
the adaptor looked like this
but as the lathe it was made on was a little small the boring bar used wasnt long enough to make the taper the way i wanted it, hence the horrible chamfer so i had it altered last night so that it now tapers to a knife edge
looking straight on, here it is fitted to my t34
and a few more pics of it fitted, along with the downpipe i cut off a large turbo escort cosworth exhaust system i got from Plynchy
