Escort RST EFi first fire up black smoke, advice please
Hi all, my latest project has finally come too life this weekend , the engine I built from an xr2i engine, modded with turbo pistons and rods, filled an oil return, running standard inlet, injectors, fiesta management , ACT sensor, , OFAB map and suppressor. , XR3i EFi loom. Modded for correct ou out.
Started first turn of the key.. good right? Now.. it runs lumpy as hell, sounds like it’s on 3 most of the time, really shaking the car. Revving does improve slightly, but not driveable. Lots and lots of black smoke from the exhaust, I assume it’s running very rich. Tried a different ÉCU , EDIS, I have 4 sparks, no improvement.
The Intet manifold is from an XR3i EFi so the fuel regulator will be set for that.
ordrered a fuel pressure gauge and will check this week. I have EGT and lambda bosses in the downpipe too now so I will get that wired up to check lambda reading.
Can anyone help with opinions, ideas, fuel pressure settings, possible issues I may have overlooked???
woukd really appreciate the sites expertise and experience. 😁😁
many thanks all.

Certainly that’s the intention, however, it’s just not drivable in my opinion, the concern is I will damage it.
Hopefully the fuel pressure test will tell me more.
What pressure would be correct for a standard EFi turbo engine with a T3? should I be looking for a particular lambda Reading at idle?
