Default Escort Cosworth ex rally car

Thought it about time I introduced my very, very, very long term Escort Cosworth project.

It all started way, way back at the start of 2010!!

I was looking for an Escort Cosworth to use as a track car ( 8 years and still have not got there ) and whilst working in Spain came across an advert for a rally car that was being broken for parts near where I live in Bristol. Contacted the seller straight away and found that all the mechanical parts had gone and all that was left was the shell, so after a quick think I ended up purchasing it completely unseen, no pictures and not even a description!!

After returning back home I needed some way of collecting it so purchased what was left of a caravan to use the chassis and base

The first picture is taken from its competition licence and the rest are what I ended up with

That is what I thought, the original plan which of course did not happen was to buy a rotten sierra which were still available cheap back then ( the good ol days ) and transfer the parts over

The only reason for starting this thread now is because it is relevant to my other escort build, see "replica escort cosworth wrc style"

Hope if the weather and work allow to come down for the Bank holiday weekend in a couple of weeks time then as often as I can

Default Strip down

Once it was home I started to look at what I had bought and was not impressed. Have to say I was a bit naďve, the car had been used for competition, rallying so was never going to be a show car.

Anyway it all started when I tried to sit in the drivers seat trying to imagine me flying around a track when reality hit, I am too fat to sit in a standard bucket seat!!

So the seats had to be removed then anything else that I did not like the look of, which was everything.

The doors were in very bad shape so were removed followed quickly buy the tailgate and bonnet.

In the end I had a very large scrap pile and just the body of a car which had some damage to the front and the rear panel was being held together with metal tape.

Yes they are St170 wheels which were fitted to a mk6 escort that I bought, being the wrong offset I changed them and these were then spare

It had its bath at Surface Processing Ltd (SPL) in July 2010 and was Ł2000 I expect the price has risen a lot since then

As was stated at the beginning it was indeed what was left of a caravan, it got used once more to take the shell to a body shop, no idea what happened to it after as I did not want it back

The shell was taken to Automotive Unlimited near Stanstead London

Pictures show it getting a new rear panel
