Default Pinto valve clearance impossible

Hi,

I'm not really mechanically minded but I can follow a Haynes manual.

I'm putting together the pinto from my cortina and am rebuilding the head...new camshaft, new rockers but I can't achieve any valve clearance whatsoever with the adjusting bolts at any position. Has anyone encountered this and if so what's the course of action....taking the rockers to be machined?

Thanks

It sounds like something is not right or being done right if you have standard parts and cannot match up to Haynes?

Default It should be simple

I agree, should be simple but all of my adjusters are set for maximum clearance and I have nothing....could it be that I've been sent a non-standard camshaft?

Did you keep your old cam ?

If you still have it you could compare base circle diameters.

Have the valves been lapped in excessively or re-cut as that would move them back in the head ?

pictures of what you're doing would be best as we can only guess at what's wrong currently. i doubt you'll be out of adjustment as pintos have a ton.

Have you changed the valves? some valves are slightly longer than standard.
