Not much of an update but every little helps. Popped up to see Mark today to see the car in the flesh. It's better than I thought. Marks work is beyond reproach. I ordered a couple more bits of work and Mark showed me the base plate for the hydraulic hand brake. It'll be a bit of a centre piece in the car.

Great work , just a quick one how are you going to seal the rear adjustable top mounts ? Your car will be full of water when your driving it in the rain , best bet would be to get mark to machine a nice billet cover that bolts over the parts lol .
Iam sure mark could machine a real nice cover that could be anodised

Keep up the good work

Cheers paul

To be fair Paul I was wondering this myself. It certainly won't be a billet cover though. Anyway what's all this driving in the rain nonsense?????
I know mark reads the thread so I'll expect a message in the morning

You can't predict the weather chief , even on track lol . I suppose you could use a clear blown plastic moulded cover so you can see the nice parts underneath

Cheers paul

I think I'll try and address the issue from underneath. Some kind of plastic bowl that will bond to the top spring cup and cover the hole. Like a small plastic inner wing thing

Yeah, I was thinking seal from below, even a thin piece of rubber and just pierce a small hole where the strut comes up through, pond liner would be tough enough...let me know if you need some to try, my mate runs a rubber factory, he makes the masks that fighter pilots use and I have quite a bit here where I sealed up my intercooler and he dropped off loads of grades to try.

Cheers Toby that sounds like a plan. Sealing around the intercooler will be on the cards in the future too. I might need a length for that if you've got enough

Jon
What do you gain from the rear adjustable top mount? Pulling the top of the shock inwards?
I dont understand that it will so anything to your suspension geometry.

Looks nice though

To be perfectly honest mate doubt I'll gain anything in it's current form (fwd). I've built in quite a bit of adjustment in the rear beam already. It's more of a future proof thing so that if I wish to go rwd or 4wd I can give it plenty of scope for adjustment. It's also about the WRC theme of the build. I wanted to go full coilover so I needed a turret modification as you can only just squeeze a skinny damper in running a 1.9" id spring as a standard car. With this turret I could run a very robust damper and a 2.5" id spring

In the plane that top mount adjusts it would allow you to widen the rear track by about 2" overall without giving too much camber and without having to use wheel spacers if you ever wanted to

To be honest mate I don't think it will give me any benefit whilst I am still front wheel drive. I have a very adjustable rear beam set up in position already. I asked Mark to put them in so that I could future proof the car as I do wish to turn into rear wheel drive or possibly four wheel drive in the future then I believe I will gain some benefit from it. It also keeps with the theme of the world Rally car style build. I'm also running a full coilover set up if I kept the car with standard rear suspension pick ups I would only be able to run a 1.9 inch diameter spring. With the set up I can run a more robust damper with a 2.5 inch internal diameter spring.

How does adjusting the top of the shock in or out (angle it sits at) change camber ?

Sadly it doesn't work like that on a fwd focus. That's why I have adjustable rear arms

I don't think you could get better than the workmanship Mark has done for you on this shell.

££££s springs to mind!

Seems like you should just go RWD now!

Thanks mate. The plan is to go rwd or 4wd in the future. The problem I have is I like to do things to the best of my budget, if that means saving for a couple more years so be it. The cost of going rwd is huge. I'd want the WRC cradle the uprights the x-member etc etc. That's a good few £k more. So the best fwd is where it's going for now while the bank recovers

That's fair enough. None of it is cheap, and I can see you're getting the foundations for the options later which I think is wise. Will be a fantastic car and absolute weapon when finished.

I've spied some ideas in the adjustable stuff for the front subframe which should work for the rear of mine.

Top quality stuff
